“We want to put the fun back into fundraising and our 2012 calendar of events will do just that.”

Helicopter General Manager Kris Beavis said 160 players teed off on the day.

“The day was booked out a week before the event,” Mr Beavis said.

“The strong demand shows the high value the community places on the rescue helicopter. We are very grateful to Yellow Pages and Ballina Golf and Sports Club and all participating businesses and players for supporting the community rescue helicopter.”

Mr. Beavis said the money raised is a welcome boost to the Helicopter as the summer season is usually the busiest time of the year for the service.

“We can fly between 6 to 7 missions a week during this time and our costs increase as the helicopters need more frequent servicing.”

It was not all serious golf on the day with $700 raised on the 9th hole as players backed themselves to get the ball on the green whilst blindfolded.

All is in place for the start of the Yellow Pages Hell on Wheels Cycle Tour, 600 grueling kilometers of mountain bike trails over 8 days from 8-15 October, 2011.

Now it’s up to the community to get behind the riders and support them and your community helicopter.

The Service raises over 60% of the $6.5 million annual operating budget from the community and the business/corporate sectors, so please give generously to help keep this vital community service available to your community.

Day 1 – Saturday October 8 – Depart Lismore Helicopter Base (and return same day)

Day 2 – Sunday October 9– Depart Kyogle for Urbenville

Day 3 – Monday October 10 – Depart Urbenville for Tabulam

Day 4 – Tuesday October 11 – Depart Tabulam for Copmanhurst

Day 5 – Wednesday October 12 – Depart Copmanhurst for Maclean

Day 6 – Thursday October 13 – Depart Maclean for Evans Head

Day 7 – Friday October 14 – Depart Casino for Ballina

The tour will be held over 8 days passing through Lismore, Kyogle, Urbenville, Tabulum, Copmanhurst, McLean, Evans Head, Ballina and return to Lismore and 600 kim from Lismore

The event provides mountain biking enthusiasts with the chance to be involved in a rigourous but friendly cycle tour, whilst raising vital funds for Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
