Northern Region SLSA Helicopter Rescue Service (the "Service")
The Service is committed to providing you with the highest levels
of customer service. This includes protecting your privacy. From 21
December 2001 , we will be bound by new sections of the Commonwealth
Privacy Act 1988, which set out a number of principles concerning the
protection of your personal information.
This privacy statement describes what type of information the Service
collects about you, how the Service uses that information, what (if
any) disclosures of that information the Service makes, and how you
can access and correct that information. This privacy statement applies
to all personal information collected or received by the Service either
directly from you or from a third party, and through any means whether
in person, by telephone or on our website.
1. What Personal Information does the Service collect?
Only your personal information necessary for the Service's operation
is collected. At present, most personal information required for the
operation of the Services is provided by State and Federal government
departments such as the NSW Ambulance Service and Northern Rivers Area
Health Service. This personal information is provided prior to, during,
or after missions undertaken by the Service to enable these missions
to be conducted safely and effectively. The service may also ask you
to provide personal information:
- Prior to you taking part in promotional, corporate or joy flights;
and
- When conducting marketing and promotional campaigns for the
Service.
2. What happens with your personal information?
Your Personal Information collected by the Service may be used:
- To ensure missions are conducted safely and effectively; For
billing purposes; and
- Direct marketing and sponsorship purposes.
The Service is under strict legal obligations to keep any information
received from State and Federal government departments confidential
and secure. All other information collected by the Service, either directly
from the public or otherwise, is treated with the same respect.
In relation to information used for direct marketing purposes, if
any correspondence is sent to you, we will give you the opportunity
to opt out of any further correspondence.
Personal Information collected by the Service may be combined and
de-identified to provide the Service with anonymous demographic information.
The Service can then use this aggregated information to understand when,
where and by whom its services are used.
3. Will personal information be given to anyone else?
Your Personal Information collected by the Service will only be disclosed
to third parties:
- If you authorise us to do so;
- To ensure your safety and the safety of others in your community;
and
- If required or permitted by law; and
- To assist law enforcement agencies, government agencies, courts
or external advisors where permitted or required by law.
4. Access and correction
Once you have been a patient on a Service mission, a participant in
a promotional or joy flight or donated funds to the Service, and personal
information has been collected from or about you, you may access your
personal information by contacting the Service's Administration Officer.
If you find that any personal information about you held by the Service
is inaccurate, you have the right to correct any such information.
The Service reserves the right to withhold your personal information
where its disclosure is restricted by law, is the subject of legal action
or may compromise the privacy of another party.
5. Is your personal information being held securely?
The Service takes every reasonable step to ensure the security of
your personal information held by it from such risks as loss or unauthorised
access, destruction, use, modification or disclosure of data. The Service
only permits your personal information to be accessed by authorised
personnel.

This privacy statement may change from time to time.
